Professional Bio

Lissette Marrero, MSW - Public Health Consultant

  

Lissette Marrero started her career as the School Health Project Associate at the Sexuality, Information and Education Council of the United States where she published SHOP Talk, a bi-weekly newsletter related to the sexual health of youth and the advocacy of national comprehensive sexuality education and facilitate trainings to professionals around the United States. As Lissette's passion for promoting sexual health grew, she felt a pull to work directly in her Bronx community which led her to the Adolescent AIDS Program at Montefiore Medical Center.


Lissette Marrero served as the Deputy Director and Administrator at the Adolescent AIDS Program where she worked from 2001 until 2016.  During her 15 year tenure Lissette provided hundreds of trainings and direct outreach to Bronx health care providers, youth and community residents on HIV/AIDS, reproductive rights of minors, cultural competency and the health and wellness of communities in the Bronx.  

  

She helped lead a multi-disciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, researchers, educators and support staff with fiscal oversight of multi-year federal, state and private grants. 

  

From 2017-2019, Lissette Marrero was as the Regional Resource Consultant supporting the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s HIV/AIDS Resource Network Program for the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health to create a coordinated effort in the federal response to HIV and Viral Hepatitis and work on a multi-tiered level to provide technical assistance, training, education, outreach and support within Region II (New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands). 


Lissette Marrero was an expert trainer for the NYC Anti-Violence Project Hotline Volunteer program which offers support to survivors of LGBTQ hate crimes and people living with HIV who experience violence for over 10 years. Lissette is currently serving her third term as co-chair to the In My Mind Mental Health Conference for LGBTQ People of Color and provides coordination, moderation and facilitation during the 2 day event.


Lissette has served on of the Board of Directors for the following organizations: 

  • Casa Atabex Ache “The House of Woman’s Power” a non-profit woman’s organization in the South Bronx providing a safe space to women of color and organized their Women Warrior Events for survivors of violence
  • COVE (Community Organized with a Vision in Excellence) a Bronx-based youth organization focused on social justice, ending violence and inequalities.
